FTP (41 lines)
Hello Paul, Friends @ 3000-l,

---------------------------------------------------------------------Paul says--
Too bad that the 'SITE' command cannot be 'configured/enhanced' to allow the
execution of additional commands. In this case if we could issue a file
equation or execute a command file then we could 'point' to an alternate
'BLDPARMS.ARPA.SYS' file. I'm sure that many folks out there would like such
capability.

---------------------------------------------------------------------Paul says--

I checked out solutions database for "enhancements" to FTP/iX specifying the
ability to execute "MPE" commands from the 'site" command and found none.

This would be a difficult implementation due to the redirection of $stdlist from
the FTP server process to many different FTP clients. Today the $stdlist from
FTPMON at 5.5 is written off to $null (I am not certain what the FTPSRVR
launched under INETD does at 6.0, but I suspect the same).

I can not currently think of a method within the FTP protocol standards to
support the returned output to "all FTP clients" of the MPE command execution.
Maybe someone in this news group has an idea on this point. I am thinking the
SITE command by standard does not hang around waiting for a return result buffer
and the FTP client is not going to like receiving an unsolicited buffer
($stdlist) from a server command execution.

Implementation of MPE commands to be executed at the FTPSRVR would also involve
many security concerns which would need to be addressed with each and every
possible command submitted to the server via the SITE command.

As always, you are welcome to contact your friends at the HP-Response Center and
submit a Service/Enhancement Request.
