Can anyone shed more light on one of the new features in 6.0?

The 6.0 communicator documents a new feature of the transaction manager that
is invoked by a new command in volutil:

alterchkptstat < volset-name > ENABLE

The article seems to be saying that this feature allows the transaction
management process to not impede the system as much but provides very little
if not conflicting technical details.

Any insights/experiences?
