PLEASE HELP SIGMA DELTA PI TO HELP EARTHQUAKE VICTIMS IN COLOMBIA!

On January 25, 1999, an earthquake shook a coffee-growing area of Colombia
that lies South-Southeast of the capital, Bogota. The city of Armenia lies
close to the epicenter and was devastated by the quake. Nearly half of the
buildings there were destroyed and two-thirds of the 1,000 people who lost
their lives as buildings toppled on them were from there. The rescue
workers continue, but it seems there are no more survivors in the rubble.
The lucky ones who survived now face incredible hardships. Close to
200,000 of them are homeless and everyone is running out of food. The
infrastructure was damaged extensively and everyone is living without
running water or electricity. They need our help.

In keeping with the oath to love all things hispanic, which they take when
inducted, members of SIGMA DELTA PI Spanish Honorary Society have decided
to carry out a fund-raising effort so they can do their part in helping
this part of the Spanish-speaking world recover.

The Red Cross is accepting only monetary contributions, so SIGMA DELTA PI
is providing secure containers for you to drop off your contributions.
There will be one in the departmental office for Foreign Languages and
Literatures and another one in the University Bookstore. If you wish to
get a receipt, please drop the money off at the Department; if you want to
write a check, please make it out to: Red Cross-Colombia Earthquake
Relief. Every little bit will help. We are asking students to give up a
Coke and a candy bar to make their contribution. Will you join them? If
you can afford more than that, of course, it will be greatly appeciated!
