First, you physically replace the drive - leaving the scsi address the same
as the original (which is probably 6).

Then, you simply load your slt tape, boot from alternate path and perform
an install.

After the install, you will perform a start norecovery from the primary path.

No need to format your new drive. It will be handled by the install process.

After the start norecovery, you will be left with a minimal FOS, so you
still have some work left, depending upon exactly what you want.  One
option would be to perform an update with the appropriate fos, subsys, and
powerpatch tapes.  Another would be to reconstruct the system from backup.

Although it doesn't really matter, the device name for you new ldev 1 will
be wrong. You can change it with sysgen, keep it in config.sys and do
another start norecovery. Not really necessary but probably more correct.
