It's sorta like "When does life begin". As I understand it, the system
starts when you turn it on, it boots when you give it the path, and sends
the download to the DTC (which is when that funny little DCC message appears
on my antiquated 917), and those things happen at various times after one
another.

I know this doesn't reduce the confusion, but it may help to explain it...
