Does anyone know if there is a "standard" list of these anywhere on the
Internet? You know the kind of thing..

.doc
.r1w

And all the many, many others. It seems that there is no formaly way of
assigning these but there must be a
way of finding out whether a particular one has been used or not
(generally).
