It's most likely the POS terminal at the restaurant (or whatever PC-based
equiv. they are using).

It *might* be the credit card transaction processor, which will either be the
restaurant's merchant bank or (more likely) whatever third party they farm it
out to.  But that seems much less likely.  They were required to be in
compliance and certified over a year ago.

Obligatory HP3000 tie-in: one of the best (hi Mark!) credit card transaction
processors uses HP3000's to process hundreds of thousands of transactions per
DAY.  Many of those little boxes they slide your card through dial up one of
several HP3000s at 300  baud.
