Expensive?  Not really so much.

Tar:      $4.75  US
Feathers: $4.80  US
           ----
          $9.55  US

And that's for quality tar & feathers.  Used to be quite a lot of labor
expense
on the part of the users, but now that I'm older it just takes a couple of
'em.
They usually do it on their break.

Glad I got a 3000.  When the 9000 comes on line, think I'll hit the trail
before
they start ordering in quantity.
