Hi Dave,
I learned to like the Posix features on MPE/iX and can understand you very
well.
Please check at least the following:
(1)
:LISTF @.HPBIN,2
If you will not find anything you can stop: all files have been eliminated.
(2)
Check whether the HPPXUDC.PUB.SYS UDC file has been set on system level.
This enables the SH command.
(3)
If you could enter the shell but man will not work check
cd /bin
ls -als
Here you should find all links to /SYS/HPBIN/ program files.
This can be done as well using
:LISTFILE /bin/@,2
from pure MPE prompt (ci).
If one these checks will fail you know at least the problem cause. Than
it's "easy" to repair either by restoring some files
or by re-creating the links.
If all of this is O.K. you should check the capabilities in
/usr/lib/terminfo and
/usr/lib/terminfo/h
The o+r should be present!
Hope that's what you're looking for, best regards, Andreas Schmidt, CSC,

Subject: POSIX
Hello all,
After seeing all of the brilliant answers and help this list has
provided, I am hoping that someone can help me with a small question about
POSIX. I am a fairly new HP-3000 programmer, (about 1 year). Before that
I was working with UNIX. I am familiar with UNIX and it seems POSIX would
be of some use to me (scripts, AWK, etc...). However on our system it does
not seem to be set up (if that makes sense?). I cannot access the man
pages and various other things. I talked to the "powers that be" and they
told me they are not that familiar with POSIX because they have not seen a
need to use any of it's features. Does anyone have any suggestions as to
what I may be able to do in this situation (re: POSIX ).
TIA,
David Patterson
