Hmmm ... our new 979 which we just powered up late last week says,
HPVERSION = C.55.03.
:SHOWME displays, "RELEASE C.55.03", and, "USER VERSION: C.55.03".
HPSWINFO's lead-in banner says, "POWERPATCH C5506 P3".
Our 980, upon which I installed PowerPatch 4 some time ago, tells me,
HPVERSION = C.55.00
:SHOWME displays, "RELEASE C.55.00", and, "USER VERSION: C.55.00".
HPSWINFO's lead-in banner says, "POWERPATCH C5504 P4".
I can only conclude that Stan is correct ... <double> #$%^& ARGH! #$%^&
I did try a few new FINFO functions which were supposed to be intro'd in
PP6, and they *do* work.
So, do I have PP6? Sure ... (I think!).

Stan likes his 918DX..... but:
> The HPSWINFO file shows:
> C5506 P3
> So...is that Powerpatch 3, or Powerpatch 6? #$%^& ARGH! #$%^&
If it means anything except PowerPatch 6, I say something is broke:
When I installed 5.5 PP4 back in Jan 1998, our HPSWINFO said:
POWERPATCH TAPE VUF:
C5504 P4
When I installed 5.5 PP5 in Aug '98, addition to HPSWINFO was:
POWERPATCH TAPE VUF:
C5505 P9
And now when I do:
:showvar hpversion
HPVERSION = C.55.05
(yes, we are still on 5.5 PP5; and being very careful NOT to do
a DBUTIL ERASE anywhere until we install 6.0 at the end of '98).
Note that "Px" suffix in HPSWINFO goes from P4 -> P9 -> P3
as you go from PP4 -> PP5 -> PP6 (assuming of course that
Stan really *does* have PP6). Only wild guess I can make is that
the "Px" suffix is some kind of HP internal build revision for each
PowerPatch.... only HP knows for sure (well.... *maybe* they can
decipher their own numbering scheme(s))....
