It sounds like FTP somehow wiped the data out, even if the eof was the
same. Could have been some network issue that through FTP off. HP talk
to us.

Later.

        Subject: A File With A Hole - a Problem

        Greetings.

        From the can't-explain file:

On Monday a Cognos subfile was FTPed from a box with MPE/iX 5.5
Powerpatch 5
(yes, the one with problems) to another box with MPE/iX 5.5
Powerpatch 4.
Although the file contained 14,695 records with data on the
sending box, the
receiving box received the same file with a big hole in the
middle - records 11
through 13,116 were blank (as were the end of the 10th record
and the beginning
of the 13,117th record). FTP on the sending box advertises
itself as
        [A0008S33].

At first I believed this was the problem discussed some time ago
when 5.5 PP 5
was first released, i.e. in addition to the DBUTIL/erase issue,
that permanent
Cognos subfiles would have unexplained 'gaps' in the data. But
I was able to
confirm that the data on the sending box was whole.

When this process was run two weeks ago, there were no holes in
the datafile.
Two weeks before that, though, there was a hole. (It just took
us a while to
analyze the problem.) Today I attempted to re-create the file
with a hole in
another account, but I was unsuccessful.

        Any ideas?
