CASPER is from Lund Performance Solutions, and is often renamed "SPOOK.PUB.SYS"
so people can use the old SPOOK interface. I wrote and maintain it :)

Just like the original SPOOK (and, later, MPEX), if it was run from another program,
it would default to staying alive (but suspended) if you "EXIT" it. This was
a SPOOK (and MPEX) feature that was and is quite useful to many users, particularly
QEDIT users.

If you tell CASPER to "QUIT" instead of "EXIT", it will terminate.

If you open a spoolfile, and then "EXIT" and CASPER was the child of a program
other than the top-level CI, it will stay alive (suspended), which leaves the
spoolfile open.

However, that isn't the problem here....

Note that the accessor is "system". If it was CASPER, it would look like:

FILE: O8024.OUT.HPSPOOL
1 Accessor(O:1,P:1,L:0,W:0,R:1),Share
#S260 EM,STAN.SIELER P:1,L:0,W:0,R:1 REM : 198.102.6.11

I.e., "#S260" (or some such) instead of "system" would be shown.

BTW, option 9 provides a little more information, and I'd suggest trying
that on the original problem spoolfile:

:listfile o8024.out.hpspool,9
********************
FILE: O8024.OUT.HPSPOOL
1 Accessor(O:1,P:1,L:0,W:0,R:1),Share
#S260 EM,STAN.SIELER P:1,L:0,W:0,R:1 REM : 198.102.6.11
 #P108 (SPOOK.PUB.SYS)
   ACCESS: R-excl REC#: 0 FNUM: 9
    LOCKS: none
