DDS2 Compression

Our client runs Win NT 4.0 SP3 and ARCserve 5.0 backup software. The tape
drive is Sony SDT-5000, the media is HP DDS2 tapes (120 meters). We are
getting conflicting responses from HP, Sony, and Cheyenne. We have tried
different combinations of the Hardware & Software compression being On/Off.
Does anyone know the "procedure" we should use in order to take full
advantage of software and/or hardware compression?
