The people who are saying the era of the PC is over are folks like Lou
Gestner, Scott McMealy and Larry Ellison. All neutral observers who have
no vested interest in the demise of the PC.

I just got the November 1998 issue of Windows NT magazine. There is a
little news item I want to share with you. According to Dataquest, NT
workstation sales will exceed 12 million in 1998, 24 million in 1999 and 44
million in 2000. Another tidbit is that according to an Information Week
poll, 70% of 150 IS decision makers surveyed are planning NT workstation
deployments within the next 2 years.

This is just Windows NT workstation. I do not include Windows 98, Windows
95 deployment and sales (and the 2 iMacs sold to corporations). It does
not include the increasing importance of the notebook either.

If the era of the PC is over, someone forgot to tell a few people.

Finally, the original question posted on this thread was from Alfredo who
stated:

A friend of mine sent me this URL for a PC World column:
http://www.cnn.com/TECH/computing/9811/06/stop.idg/

How does it relate to YOUR own experiences?

I answer thusly, "It does not relate to MY own experiences on my
computers."

Kind regards,

Denys. . .

And it's not just Windows.

Of that, I have no doubt. ;)

I won't. This isn't about religious wars. This is just that ALL of
the desktop computing platforms are too complex. That may be why
some (Lou Gerstner comes to mind) have said that the era of the PC
is over.
