I have noticed that most 3rd parties have up front processes that does
variable evaluations, before submitting the JCL to the system.

There are also many shareware JCL submission programs out there. If you
don't like that, then you have to figure out what features are good in
say STREAMX and incorporate them in your JCL program.

I've had to write several of these kinds of programs. They really are
not that bad. And most of the time, they do more than just variable
evaluation.

Being able to evaluate variables in a job card, or be able to
inherit
variables during a stream would solve a lot of problems for me.
I use
STREAMX to solve the first issue, and can solve the second issue
with the
some work in STREAMX, but if you are writing a commercial
product, this
        usually isn't a great alternative.

        1. Fix STREAM subsystem to recognize VARs on the job card.
Then I don't have to hard code account names in the jobs.
                !JOB TEST,MGR.!HPACCOUNT
                !comment
                !EOJ

        2. Create new var
                HPHACCOUNT or HPFACCOUNT or HPFILEACCT
which holds the account name of the accessed file -- kind
of like
        HPFILE.
                !JOB TEST,MGR.!HPFILEACCT
                !comment
                !EOJ
        or
                !JOB TEST,MGR.!FINFO (HPFILE,"ACCTNAME")
                !EOJ

Now I can stream this job from any account.

        Thoughts?
