Hence why insurance companies who write Errors and Omissions insurance, have
quadrupled their premiums for consultancies and software houses who work in
the Y2K arena... they are bankrolling for those lawsuits that absolutely
will be filed on January 3, 2000.  I can see the lines at the courthouse
now.

Seems a shame to do this.  On one hand the insurance companies are gouging
their insureds, but on the other hand, they do have to protect themselves
and their shareholders.

Short answer to all of this:  Anyway one looks at it, there are no winners,
just (hopefully) fixed systems.
