I believe that you have to use sysgen to set up that device number with
a class.

        Is there a way to network print to a device name rather than a
        number?  (HP3000   5.5  express 5)

        I've done the obvious;
          from ioconfig:  ACLASS mylp ldev=12
           then 'openq mylp'.

        I can successfully print to ldev 12 but printing to 'mylp'
        just sits in the spooler in READY state.

        Bob.
