I just went through a similar scenario. Had a lot of "fun" with HPRC
explaining what I wanted to do and why. They wanted me to do the unload
and load routine, but one of the tables has 52 million rows and it would
have taken much more time than had been allotted (by someone else) for
the task.

After much prodding, HP finally gave me Leonard's solution (START DBE
'dbename' NEWLOG etc.) with one caveat: it's an unsupported solution, so
if it didn't work I had to do it "the supported way." It worked fine,
though, and saved me several days of downtime. (If you want the
"unsupported" instructions HP faxed me, ;-) send me your fax # off
list.)
