HP TO 9.0 USERS: UPGRADE OR DIE
by Mark A. Kellner, HP WORLD DAILY Staff Writer

...HP said it would offer a free HP-UX 10.20 upgrade to users who are not
on a support contract with the firm(HP).

"We're here to help customers get upgraded to Y2K," said Karen Louie, HP
Installed Base Marketing Programs
Manager. "We're going to focus on customer satisfaction. We want to help
our customers to move forward and be
ready for the next century."

The program, which will be formally announced August 10, is aimed at HP
9000 server customers running 9.04 or
earlier systems, Louie said. Along with the free upgrade to HP-UX 10.20, "
selected core HP-developed
software" will be included in the free package, she said.

"Our specific challenge at HP is that we're focusing on our legacy or
mature customer environment,"
Louie said.

HP said it would offer assistance in replicating software licenses so users
can test existing applications on test
bed systems.
