This is only a guess. Could it be that those processes are somehow
responsible for 'securing' certain 'vital' system files from being purged by
keeping them open and thus not included on a normal backup?

Subject: Diagnostic Daemons and Full System Backups.

Many Moons ago, when we upgraded to 5.5.04; We came across something particular
in the manual ( page 6-22 of the 5.5 system software maintenance manual) .
The manual states that after completing the upgrade and making a backup SLT,
that you should do a full system backup...including going into sysdiag and
shutting down the PSMON and MEMLOGP daemons.
Is this step necessary for all full system backups? Am I short changing myself
by not shutting down these daemons on a regular basis for store? I know that
both of these files are on the SLT, but I am confused as to why HP would
refer to a "full system backup" as having these daemons shut down on 6-22 of
the manual, and not mention that step anywhere else?
Just trying to avoid those oh-so-long system reloads...thanks for any info you
can offer.
