I could not agree more, Deny is 100 % right.
I have a 20 gig scsi. The only IDE is the boot disk (c). The boot disk
has un-needed files on it other than the autoexec and config files in
the root.
Win98 and all relevant win98 apps (office, netscape, valuable system
programs) are all kept on the Seagate SCSI (d).
E,F,G,H,I drives are on the ADAPTEC 2940 (good card -> but only allows 6
addresses +1 for the controller).
When you build a large machine and plan to expand the hell out of it,
Western Digital has a great card -> the WD7000 allows up to 21 chained
devices but takes additional overhead drivers at bootup.
As long as the config and autoexec files are on the emergency boot-up
floppy along with edit.com, re-inserting the MSCDEX statement and
re-booting to gain access to the CD is trivial.
The reason I am concerned with this topic is that I have the NAKAMICHI
MBR-7 CD.
This external SCSI cd device has 7 CD inside and everytime you go to
EXPLORE
or MY COMPUTER, it has to go (1 by 1) and get the titles from all 7 CD
WHILE I WAIT !.
Also in the ADAPTEC utilities, there is a 'DISK INFO" which is suppose
to display the title of all the CD's you have in this device.
Currently, when displayed, it shows 7 lines of blanks.
I contacted ADAPTEC and NAKAMICHI and all say the WIN CD drivers should
work but they don't.
Any suggestions ?
I am a true believer in SCSI, its the only way to go not to mention
expand.
