After your system is up and everything is OK, don't forget that last step,
i.e., KEEP CONFIG from SYSGEN. I've been nailed by this one. You can also
save you config group as an extra precaution at the beginning of your
exercise, i.e., SYSGEN
BA CONFIG
K OLDCONF
K NEWCONF
Then make your changes and K NEWCONF when done.

I've also been nailed by IOCONFIG. If the last START was not a NORECOVERY,
the default config group is BOOTUP. It is read only and although the
IOCONFIG changes take effect, they are not saved in the CONFIG group. If
you don't immediately go into SYSGEN and make the changes, they will be lost
on the next startup.

Another handy tool is the ODE MAPPER. I've used it to verify that all disc
drives were up, connected and addressed correctly. From the ISL prompt:
ISL>  ODE
MAPPER
RUN
Your configuration will list on the console. Then
EXIT
EXIT
ISL> START NORECOVERY;GROUP=NEWCONF.

                Simple, when making changes in SYSGEN, keep then to a
different group.
                Then boot to that group as in "START NORECOVERY
GROUP=NEWCONF" assuming
                you kept to NEWCONF. Then if things go bad, you can "START
NORECOVERY
                GROUP=CONFIG". If things are OK, use SYSGEN, open the
NEWCONF files and
                keep them as CONFIG. You can then PURGEGROUP NEWCONF.

                If your brave and confident you can make changes hot buy
using IOCONFIG.
                Or not-so-hot be making the changes to the CONFIG group and
when done
                issue the command DOIONOW.

                Hope this helps
