I don't recall XEQ being available on Classic MPE.

However, MPEX from VESoft emulated it on Classic.  During the early years
of transition to Spectrum, these particular features (like XEQ) were
marketed by VESoft so those shops which had both kinds of machines so that
Classic machines could duplicate certain Spectrum features.

My guess is that if you saw XEQ being used on a Classic, it was being used
under MPEX.
