A short while back, I thought I read on here that HP was moving
away from updates on CD-ROM. As one of those who got "stuck"
with a CD-ROM when our new systems were ordered just over a
year ago, I was considering removing the CD-ROM drive and
replacing it with another DAT drive.

Just a shorter while ago, we had our DAT drive replaced by
HP and I mentioned to the service engineer my plans to replace
the CD-ROM with another DAT. He told me that HP was going to
move to a CD-only update format!

So which is it? Is the CD-ROM drive useless or useful? What
are HP's plans for updates via CD-ROM?
