Hehe!  I'll never forget my first HP3000 assignment for a consulting firm. 
I spent a week in the office familiarizing myself with the HP3000 (which 
I had never seen before then) and, especially, learning the Editor.  After 
I had "mastered" it, I was sent to the client site and found out they 
used QEDIT, which forced me to learn another editor all over again! :-)

Not from me!  I agree that it makes good sense to learn about the
"standard" 
utilities available in common on all HP3K's.
