CNN has a fascinating behind-the-scenes look at Volkswagen's complete
revamping of their IT system. Unfortunately, there is no mention of
the 3000 (though there is mention of brand-unspecified UNIX systems,
so HP might be there).
It certainly sounds like buzzword-central, with mention of client-server
UNIX systems, Oracle, SAP, intranet, "software factory," quality assurance,
software reuse, objects, C++, and even Smalltalk.
One of the more interesting statements (to me) is
"One of the key reasons Gedas beat out larger outsourcers,
such as Andersen Consulting, was its insistence on changing
almost everything about VW's systems--and many of its
business processes as well."
