no - but i think glenn cole figured it out (even if it was a
swag :-).  the *creator* of the misbehaving stream file
was not manager.sys.  under the heading of 'dear, please
ask for directions or check the road map' :-) i looked
more closely at the help for jobsecurity.  sure enough, if
there's a mismatch between the creator of the file and
who's on the job card - you'll be prompted for the
password.  seems a bit odd to me that it was happening
since operator.sys was the creator of the file to
begin with (oops :-) - but that's another story.     - d
