It is a slangish transmogrification of the Spanish phrase, "¿Quien sabe?" (Who
knows?). The speaker of that phrase, the Long Ranger's faithful sidekick, was
Tonto, whose name is Spanish means idiot, fool, or stupid.

These names were either an inside joke or a bit of mid-century American
racism, depending on your interpretation. What evil truly lurks in the minds
of men? Only the Shadow knows....
