Thank you all for your prompt replies.  However, it still doesn't work.
Here are the error messages which appear during boot:

The last message does me no good, I AM the operator.
I have not been able to find any info on any of this on the HP LaserROM for
MPE 5.0.  We are running MPE 5.0, and (for financial reasons, surprise,
suprise) we have no HP support either for hardware or software.  (Not MY
decision)
