I have a technical question that someone in this group may be able to answer, as
HP certainly won't.
On the 960's and 980's, there was a MUX on the back of the machine that the
console and support modem plugged into, but we were also able to configure the
other ports on it (against HP's insistance) for serial communication as ldev 23,
24 etc. We used one of these for a "Keep Alive" sensor so we could tell when
the hp3000 was not responding or hung.
On our 968, there is no MUX, and the serial ports are taken up by the support
modem and the UPS connection.
There is, however a parallel port on a Single Ended SCSII adapter. This port is
not used(according to HP) on the 3000, but is used on the Unix machines.
I would like to know if any of you know how to configure and use this port, as I
could configure my Keep Alive sensor to use parallel communication. I want this
sensor directly off the 3000, not off a DTC, as they are not on the same UPS and
could give me false alarms if the power went off.
I only want to send character out this port from a job every 90 seconds so the
sensor can detect the change in voltage on one of the wires, so there is no
requirement for bi-directional communication.
Any help is appreciated.
