I recall a company in Orlando, FLA called Randomex that did those type of
services for Disney.

I found an ad in a trade rag for a couple of outfits that do data recovery
and drive repair. I have no personal experience with them.

today is just the monday-est of thursdays...

i had a 9gb drive go belly up overnight - and yup you
guessed right - there's *no* backup to recover from :-(
according to sysdiag, the spindle motor is stopped.
so this drive isn't just dead, it's most sincerely dead.
this drive is part of a private volume - so that means
(i think) the whole pv is hosed. of course, this is
the private volume that our y2k people have all
their software on <whimper>. rumor has it there
are folks (companies) that can do recoveries....
doesn anyone have any name & phone numbers??
