Is there a simple way to access an  IMAGE  dataset record , perform a
calculation on a numeric field and update ? This is for all the entries in
a dataset.

The exercise is a twisted variation of a Y2K  date aging problem wherby
only the Month (described as a standalone item) has to age. The good book
does talk about calcs on an item defined as a date, but must be a full date
format (ddmmyy etc). Would be nice if mm ( as in >item xyz,date,mm)   could
be specified.
