Rick,
Yep I fooled with tar several months ago. For documentation
summon the Posix shell and type "man tar", or head for your
local bookstore. Also I had some (minor but frustrating (UNIX))
problems which some folks on the list helped me out with, so
you might check the 3000-l archives.
Note:
Beware - tar unlike dd has a 2GB file size limit.
