We've got several VT session working at the colon prompt which keep locking up. Sometimes the
lock-up last 20 seconds and comes back, sometimes it never comes back and you have to do a killsess
to get rid of them. My performance tools show no activity with the session. A showproc of the
session shows one of their processes blocked for memory manager (BLKMM):
%SHOWPROC JPINEIRO,@.@
#s1235, jpineiro,jcp.sys,jcp (ldev 201)
B152 0:00.225 WAIT S1235 109 (JSMAIN.PUB.SYS)
C152 0:00.742 WAIT S1235 75 :MPEX
C152 0:00.301 WAIT S1235 154 (MPEX.PUB.VESOFT)
C152 0:01.480 BLKMM S1235 155 (MAIN.PUB.VESOFT)
C152 0:00.146 WAIT S1235 108 (MAIN.PUB.VESOFT)
C152 0:00.112 TRMIO S1235 153 (VTSERVER.NET.SYS) ...D
The lock up appears to be in no way related toHP3000 system performance. The user can be doing one
of many things when the problem occurs (including showjob and listf). It has happened on an idle
system. Memory on the host is ample. We've been unable to link the problem to any one process on
the HP or on our Network.
Here's the 1 million dollar question: Is there any way this could be anything but a desktop or
Network problem?
On the HP.
Could this be an I/O problem?
Something leading to excessive memory pagefaults?(What's the best way to tell)
TIA
(wild, crazy and senseless guesses will gladly be accepted)
