asked to post it here also, so:

The HP replacement for the 293x printers is the P405, manufactured
by PSi GmbH in Germany and OEMed by HP. The HP product number is

to address the issues of barcodes and multi-part forms.

      The P405 is a 24 needle, serial impact dot matrix printer. It
     represents a high performance, highly reliable printer offering a
     sophisticated paper handling and various other features. The
basic

interface, including Emulation of HP 293X and HP2235
printers.
     It will handle six part stationery in a single pass.

     Media
           The P405 provides the capability to process a wide range
of papers an form sets that is:
                 * Fanfold Paper
                 * Cut Sheets
                 * Transparencies
                 * Multipart Forms
                 * Envelopes and Labels

      Following bar-codes are implemented:
                 * Code 39
                 * 2 of 5 industrial
                 * 2 of 5 interleaved
                 * Codabar
                 * EAN 8
                 * EAN 13
                 * Code 93
                 * MSI Mod 10/10
