Actually, both Java and the Netscape port are using gcc 2.8.0! (And I am as
well whenever I build anything, including gcc itself). Maybe I'll have to
try the sendmail stuff and see what happens. However, since I couldn't even
begin to play with this until Friday at the earliest, it seems that you're
further along without my interference. :-)

What's interesting is the way that sendmail does a build, since it involves
the shell much more heavily than a normal make. Could the shell wrappers have
something to do with it? Your traces seem to indicate this because there are
a number of shell invocations between the make and the point of failure. Do
you know perhaps whether or not pin 5b was actually gcc or another shell
invocation?
