If you know your range of IP addresses, you can do the following:

I have a command file called 'NETLOAD'. Below is a listing.

ECHO PING > J1
ECHO NUMBER >> J1
ECHO 1 >> J1
ECHO RANGEPING >> J1
ECHO 123.456.789.1 >> J1
ECHO 123.456.789.255 >> J1
ECHO QUIT >> J1
nettool.net.sys < J1

This will ping every address in the IP address range for 123.456.789.xxx and
information about every successful ping will be stored in the cache.

The following command file called 'NETCACHE' will display the cache for you and
you can scan through this to find your offending MAC address. When you find the
MAC address, the same line will contain your IP address that is duplicated. If
you don't know who has what IP address, you will still have to go to each
machine to find it, but you might recognize the address and know exactly what
has happened.

nettool.net.sys;info="nameaddr;mappings;mapping;quit"

Below is a sample of what this looks like:

HP-XL 8:33 AM: netcache
NETTOOL Version: B05082B3

Enter HELP HELP for an explanation of the help facility.

Enter HELP OPERATION for guidance on NETTOOL use.

Commands can be abbreviated, HELP keywords cannot.

Subject: Duplicate IP address

Hello,

I have an error showing up on my Unix console (yes, I know this is the 3000
list). it says:

Duplicate IP address: sent from Ethernet address 00:60:47:80:b3:ac.

Is the only way to track this down do go from PC to PC and check the NIC for
this MAC address?

TIA
