I used the Caldera version of Linux to run an Intranet at my last job
using Apache. It worked very well, the Caldera version comes with
some nice stuff like OpenDOS, netware support, amoung other things.
For me it was a toss up between RedHat and Caldera.

Absolutely - and as much as we bash our Unix counterparts (smiling most of
the time while we do it), it's beneficial to have some knowledge of Unix,
and RedHat Linux is an inexpensive way to acquire that skill.

It's also one hell of an OS on the Intel Platform :)

(Yes, they guy who like NT a lot, likes RedHat Linux a lot too :)

Cheers,
Joe

Well, as Popeye would say, "What a Kawinkydink". As I was reading
this thread I was also loading diskettes into an old 486 to install
another distribution of Linux - SlackWare. As with Joe and Jeff, I'm
doing this more for a training exercise than anything else - with an
eye to some practical application.

Question - are others among you using Linux and if so which
distributions? I chose Slackware simply because it was referenced
more often than others in the online documentation. Has anyone
actually compared any of the distributions?

Thanks,
Steve Barrett
