   SORT is in CM

Yes...the *USER INTERFACE* is in CM.  Sort calls the NM HPSORT routines.

In addition to Gavin's unlikely (but probably possible) scenario,
there's one other situation where staying in CM may be better than
switching to NM:  heavy use of a CM-managed file (RIO, CIR, or KSAM V file)
(BTW, my copy of SORT has been OCT'd, but it's still CM)
