Apache uses the Henry Spencer regex code, which seems to compile OK on MPE.

Probably any regex code will compile easily, considering that no file I/O
or network I/O is involved.  For GNU regex, it's probably just a matter of
getting the autoconfigure script to work as described in the MPE/iX Porting
Guide:
