Actually not. The DOJ wants to make sure Micro$oft is going to spread a
lot of money in Washington power circles. Until M$ shows a willingness to
pay tribute, the DOJ is going to keep on coming.

However, note that paying off the politicians does not always work.
Witness the current Lockheed-Martin & Northrop-Grumman debacle. These two
companies pay a lot of money to Washington, yet the DOJ is going after
them, trying to prevent them to merge. It seems the DOD has instigated a
suit and called in the DOJ in trying to prevent the merger. The DOD fears
they will not be able to get good competitive bids if all the aerospace
defense related companies are merged into one. On the other hand, Lockheed
and Northrop are saying this merger would be to the benefit of the
taxpayers. I wonder what Ralph Nader's position is on this merger.
Perhaps he would write a book, "Unsafe at any Mach number." He knows
nothing of computers, doesn't even use them, so why does anyone even listen
to him on the MS-DOJ issue.

It is my contention the computer industry will rue the day Scott McMeasly
and Jim Barksloud called in the government because they had trouble selling
their wares. I guess it is just coincidence Orin Hatch who is gunning for
M$, also happens to be from Utah, the home of Novell. Remember also that
laptop computers are not allowed in a session of Congress. It seems the
non-computer savvy representatives, the vast majority, are afraid of the
ones who know how to use computers. That should tell you something.

Microsoft is releasing Windows 98 with integrated IE 4 on June 25th. Let's
see what the DOJ does.

Meanwhile, I am going to check out Be.

Kind regards,

Denys. . .

Does this mean that Billy-boy is off the hook at the DOJ?
