If memory serves Intel offers a snazzy little print server very much like
the JetDirect EX boxes, but a bit nicer in that Intel's boxes support both
parallel and serial connections, and are HTML servers for simplicity in
setting up. As NT print servers, they SHOULD support lpr/lpd, but I don't
know that for sure.
As for third-party software, Unison's NBSpool or Tivoli's SpoolMate will
both go great distances towards easing mental distress (we use both and
they're very nice). They work MUCH better than native MPE/iX does in
communicating with networked printers.
