It could be due to heavy traffic. But another likely cause is a bad
transceiver or a bad hub. If the number of lost packets goes up quite
rapidly, it might be worth isolating the various segments on the network
to see if the problem suddenly goes away. The segment last disconnected
will be the home of the transceiver with the problem. A network analyzer
would help a lot in this case.
