Our shop at present are not utilizing jumbo datasets but are looking at
b-trees capability. Needless to say that you are correct and that is an
unacceptable answer and a lengthy period for no response to the problem.
There are other packages on the market that deserve consideration as a
competitive solution to the backup task. Our fear goes farther to include
other products from the Unison-Tymlabs merger such as SPOOLMATE, DISCMASTER
& FORMATION. Will these packages also be afforded the same enhancement
attention ? These did cost money and have an associated cost for
maintenance. Things must move forward or those products will be ESPUL,
whatever & FANTASIA.

Ahhhh, Tuesday.

Dear fellow listers,

It's not my style to air these matters in a public forum but I've
talked to the vendor on this for over 10 months without any results. Many
of the backup products available for the 3K have the feature for including
in the backup the entire database when only a single dataset was modified.
In RoadRunner that feature is invoked by using the 'dbstore' parameter.
The
problem is that said parameter does *not* include the jumbo chunks of a
dataset and I'm assuming that it also does *not* include the newly
available
'b-trees'.
I brought this to Unison's attention in March of '97 and have inquired
repeatedly since then about its status. Initially I was told that they
were
aware of the problem and without making a firm commitment they indicated
that the product would be enhanced to include 'jumbo' and 'b-tree' datasets
when the 'dbstore' parameter was specified.
My most recent inquiry in the matter occurred on 1/20/98 and their
answer to the question 'When will "dbstore" be fixed?' was 'Who knows!!'.
I feel that such a response is simply unacceptable and I'm seriously
considering to look around for another product.

Is it the case that other sites that are using RoadRunner have not
gone
to 'jumbo' datasets or are they unaware of the problem? If the latter is
true I hope that this would cause the RoadRunner user base to apply some
pressure and have this situation fixed.

Regards
