Thanks, Barry, Lee, Stan and Bruce.

I was looking for ways to save as much data as possible and also to save a bit of time regarding recovery. I thank you all for your comments.  A file with a hole in it, is better than no file at all (at least in some cases).
     
I'll keep DTDUTIL and BADSECTR in mind, too bad they require passwords. Dfragx would be ideal, of course, where can I find out more?

As far as logging on in single-user/single-disc mode, we did it on another occasion (with CE help), but I was unsure about the response center being able to logon remotely to do this.
