Spooling (47 lines)
Laserjet 5N goes quite well with DTC serial ports. We have tens
of 5N install in our site connected both through Serial port and
LAN. Maybe you can check through your DTC port configuration in
NMMGR. Line printers and laserjet are not using the same printer
profile. But it makes no difference whether you are connecting a
5N or a 6P, HP Laserjet series can share the same profile.

Sigh .....

It would be soooooo useful if users would talk to technicians
before they go racing off to buy smart-looking new printers.
I think they are becoming more of a fashion item than a workplace
tool.

Anyway, for reasons that we need not go into, I CANNOT give this
user department any network connections. They've bought one 5N
and one 6P to replace a couple of printers spooled from (serial)
DTC ports. The 5N has a multi-protocol JetDirect card, but I
can't get it to print from a DTC serial port. The 6P is connected
to a PC and has no JetDirect card. Don't know what to do with this
one.

I seem to remember having read somewhere that these printers are
not supported as spooled SERIAL printers connected to DTCs. Can
anyone confirm this?
