Right on! "Are Procrustean Databases Necessary?" was the question in 1984
and the answer was, "Not so with IMAGE and with Adager".
Has it been 13 years?
D. David Brown (who evaporated around 1986) published that paper and took
the cover photograph, for which we all convened in Salt Lake City. As I
drove from the airport, Bob Green was typing on my HP DOS-based laptop
(remember it?) and complaining about the Procrustean keyboard and screen :-)
Bob Green was the tall fellow on the cover picture (whose legs were being
sawed off by Fred White) and I was the short fellow (who was being
stretched by the same aforementioned Fred White). I'm happy to report that
Fred's "efforts" to make us conform to the size of the Procrustean Bed
failed and Bob is still as tall (6"7" or so) and I am still as short (5'10"
or so). Fred, of course, is still as busy as ever, programming all kinds
of neat Adager things. Bob continues to dedicate himself to Qedit and I
continue to dedicate myself to Adager.
And all of us refuse to be tied down to Procrustean beds :-)
