To my knowledge, BASIC/3000 has never had a six character filename limitation
-- or at least it hasn't had it for the 20 years that I've been using it.

And as to Gavin's comment that BASIC is inflexible, again that hasn't been my
experience. We've always been able to make it do anything we've ever wanted it
do -- and generally with a quickness and efficiency that hasn't always been
easy to duplicate in other languages.
