Jim,
I've been using Dataproducts 8524 Dot Matrix printers for three years
now, and have had NO (knock on wood) problems so far. We use them to
print labels, 3-ply stock paper, & 5-ply forms. They have full
compatibility with the HP2235A RuggedWriter 480 printer. The last time
I purchased one, it cost about $2,500.00 & the ribbons cost about
$35.00 each.

Subject: End Of Support?

Well, I realize that this will inundate me with sales calls from every HP
equipment support company out there, but I was really surprised by my
HP support rep today when I requested a quote on support for a (venerable)
2934A printer. It seems that HP will no longer be supporting this
printer after January 31, 1998. I just can't believe that HP could/would
do this. The only reason (other than pure greed, which is not unknown
in these areas) for not supporting this printer is because HP has a better
one.
So, I have two questions:
1) Is there a replacement printer for the 2934A (we use four of these and
they are real work horses)?
2) Anybody want to quote me a support cost for this printer (located in
EL Paso, Texas)?
