Gavin follows up with:
|But you *can* do:

|:BUILD A6;DEV=**MEMBER1
|:BUILD A7;DEV=**MEMBER2

And you can also do:

:build a8;dev=**
:build a9;dev=*36_2Dec199716:43:[log in to unmask]

Clive,

  Sounds like there's a problem with your SCO box. If you can telnet to
port 25 on that box from the 3000 and you get a "220 <something>" response
back from it, then the connection's working. Type "HELO mysystem" and hit
return, if you don't get some response from that system within a minute
or two, then time to start digging into the sendmail.cf on the SCO box.

  There's also the possibility, if it's a very old version of mail on that
box, that you're hitting SCO's non-RFC compliant smtp mailer. We made mods
to our mailer many years ago when we first hit this problem; seems there are
still a few very old/broken SCO mail programs floating around.

  {If this is the case, the technical problem is that the broken SCO mailers
use only LF characters as end-of-line delimiters; not CRLF as required by
the SMTP standards. Our mailer detects this and works around it fwiw.}
